Box Score Throggs Neck, NY – In a Skyline Conference Women’s Volleyball match-up Monday night, the Privateers of Maritime College battled the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent to five games, but in the end, the Dolphins stole the deciding game by the score of 15-13.
The Dolphins won the first two games both by a score of 30-22, however the Privateers then took control taking home the third and fourth games 30-27 and 30-26. This set up the decisive fifth game with both teams looking to earn their first victory of the season. Maritime took an early 6-4 lead, but this would be their only lead as Mount Saint Vincent went on a seven point scoring streak thanks to the serving abilities of junior outside hitter Monique Lopez (Bronx, NY/Aquinas). Maritime made their last push on a four point streak, but just weren’t able to catch up to the Dolphins who squeaked away with the win.
The Privateers had outstanding games from junior outside hitter
Danielle Scicutella (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) who had 10 kills, freshman outside hitter
Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillos, NY/West Genesse) who finished with six kills, six digs and three aces, while junior middle blocker
Anna Kuchin (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) had a career high of 10 solo blocks. The Dolphins were led to victory by junior outside hitter
Jacqui Dauphinais (S. Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth) who tallied 19 kills, 47 digs and six assists. They also got contributions from sophomore setter
Jessica Thorn (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck) who had 35 assists and sophomore middle blocker
Maggie McGowan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Savior) who had five kills in the last game, she finished with a total of 13 kills on the day.
Today’s loss drops the Privateers to a 0-2 overall record and 0-2 in the Skyline Conference, the Dolphins move to 1-1 on the year and 1-1 in the Skyline. Next up for Maritime will be the Ducks of Steven’s Institute of Technology on Wednesday September 15 in Hoboken, NJ,
